The Sons of The American Revolution, Christopher Gist Chapter of Butler on Thursday named Dave and Manuela Curran of East Brady as recipients of this year's Citizenship Award.

The award recognizes citizens for patriotism in service to their country.

Dave Curran is a Vietnam veteran who served 20 years in the Navy, serving in the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas as well as the South Pacific, working aboard cargo attack vessels, mine sweepers, assault landing craft tug boats and an Admiral staff tender.

In addition to Curran's military service, the couple lost a son, Army Spec. Carl Curran II, in May 2004 in Iraq.

The Currans' eldest son, David Curran Jr., is currently serving his seventh year in the Coast Guard in Kodiak, Alaska.

Jessica Ritterbusch, the Currans' daughter, has been enlisted in the Navy for five years.
