Reynolds runs over Falcons, 50-15
GREENVILLE — For a football team to win, it has to be solid on offense, defense and special teams.
On Friday night, Reynolds was particularly dominant in one of those areas.
The Raiders returned two kickoffs and one punt for touchdowns and blocked two punts on their way to a 50-15 rout of A-C Valley.
"We made plays," said Reynolds coach Tim Scarvel. "Honestly, I've been waiting for some of those kids to make plays all year long, and tonight they come in bunches."
Reynolds needed only one offensive play to take the lead when Seth Allison broke through the A-C Valley defensive front and raced 30 yards for the score.
Allison rushed for a team-high 116 yards on 10 carries.
Reynolds tallied a defensive score with 7:32 left in the opening quarter when Jon Uhrin tackled Falcons tailback Mike Himes in the end zone for a safety.
On the ensuing free kick, Brandon Wolfe outran the Falcons special teams unit for a 60-yard return to give the Raiders a 16-0 advantage.
Uhrin made the Reynolds lead 22 points with 4:08 left in the first quarter when he blasted into the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown.
Uhrin, a 5-foot-8, 190-pound senior, had 84 yards and two scores on nine carries.
The Raiders' score was set up by a blocked punt that gave Reynolds (1-9) the ball at the A-C Valley 14-yard line.
The Raiders closed out the scoring in the opening period when Wolfe caught a punt at the 20-yard line and broke an array of Falcons tackles on his way to an 80-yard return.
"We can't tackle," said A-C Valley coach Randy Lemmon. "We stopped (Wolfe) dead in his tracks, but we just couldn't make the tackle."
The Raiders added another score with 10:39 left in the second quarter when Uhrin plowed into the end zone from the 1-yard line.
A-C Valley did manage to get on the scoreboard with 1:27 left in the third quarter when Brad Rembold threw a pass to Brandon Eiler in the left flat and Eiler turned it into an 8-yard score.
Rembold threw for 33 yards on 9-of-17 passing, but had two interceptions.
The Falcons (0-9) scored on their next offensive series when Luke Heeter ran seven yards through the middle of the Reynolds defense for the touchdown.
Himes was the Falcons' leading ground gainer with 37 yards on seven carries.
"There's no question that (Reynolds) plays better competition, and they would win more than half their games in our league," said Lemmon. "We're bad. We are at the bottom and we just have to start building up."
