Grenninger leashes Bulldogs to help KC to KSAC title

Butler's Amy Achesinski slams the ball past Seneca Valley's Jennifer Boyd Thursday in the Tornado's 3-2 win that earned them a spot in the WPIAL playoffs.

Josh Grenninger had the game to end all games.

The Karns City goalkeeper stopped all 21 of Redbank Valley's shots in the Gremlins' 2-0 home victory Thursday night.

Aaron McGarvey scored both of KC's goals, with Chris Harmon and Cory Terwilliger contributing assists.

The win gives Karns City its third consecutive Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference boys soccer title.

Both the Gremlins and Bulldogs entered the game with identical 15-2 records, with Redbank claiming a 6-5 win over KC earlier this season.

But the Bulldogs were stonewalled by Grenninger, a sophomore who played the field for much of the season.

"He won the game tonight, plain and simple," KC coach Roy Parker said. "He stopped 21 shots and seven of them were breakaways at point-blank range."

Despite winning the conference title, KC will be the second seed in the upcoming District 9 Class AA playoffs. The Gremlins will receive a bye in the first round.

"The seedings were decided before we played our game," said Parker.
