Summit falls in 34-30 shootout with Shenango

The Summit Academy football team wanted a shootout withShenango.

It got one.

The Knights led 24-14 at the half and 30-21 with 10 minutes to play in the game but couldn't hold on in a 34-30 Tri-County North Conference loss Saturday.

Summit (3-4, 3-3) intercepted Shenango quarterback Rocco Colaveccia three times, the first going for a 48-yard touchdown by Leonard Brown on the first play of the game.

But the standout quarterback still completed 21-of-31 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns.

Colaveccia won the game with his feet when he scrambled into the end zone from 6 yards out with 1:30 remaining in the game for Shenango (6-1, 5-1).

Summit still had its chance. It drove to the Shenango 40, but Knights quarterback Stephen Grandison was intercepted to end the rally.

Grandison finished 6 of 9 for 82 yards and three touchdowns.

Ryan Robinson scored on a 79-yard run to give Summit an early 16-8 lead. The back rushed for 115 yards on 11 carries.

The Knights led by nine after Brown hauled in a 14-yard pass from Grandison with 10:31 remaining, but Colaveccia tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass and then scored the go-ahead TD on his short run.
