The Butler Outdoor Club is asking for nominations for the BOC Outstanding Outdoor Contribution Award for 2006, honoring individuals or groups that make significant contributions to outdoor conservation, education or activities.

The winner will be announced at the club's annual dinner Nov. 18 at the East Butler Fire Hall.

The speaker at the dinner will be Kevin Patrick, author of "Pennsylvania Caves and other Rocky Roadside Wonders."

Motivational clown visits health center

Larry the Lollipop Clown, a motivational entertainer and speaker, will visit the Mental Health Association at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The presentation is open to clients, volunteers and collaborates. For information, contact Elaine Callihan at 724-287-1965.

The Mental Health Association is at 140 N. Elm St.

SAXONBURG — Violet Covert, author of "Map of Butler County, 1858,"will speak at the Saxonburg Public Library during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.Covert will present a program titled "Moving Day 1800." The library is located at 240 W. Main St.

ZELIENOPLE — A Reading Rainforest Book Fair will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School, 300 Pittsburgh St.The event is organized by the CVE Parent-Teacher Organization.

VALENCIA — A health and nutrition seminar will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Valencia Presbyterian Church, 80 Sterrett St., off Three Degree Road.Information will e presented by Dr. Jason Gillis.For information or to register, call Ellen Liebold at 724-443-5429. Child care will be available.

PORTERSVILLE — The Portersville-Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual auction at 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at the fire hall, West Portersville Road.The event will also include a whole hog sausage and baked goods sale. To donate items for the auction, call 724-368-3261 and leave a message.

BUTLER TWP — Christ Community United Methodist Church will host a Trunk-or-Treat event from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Oct. 29 in the church parking lot, North Duffy Road.Church members will decorate the trunks of their cars and pass out Halloween treats.Children may wear costumes and should take a bag to hold treats.The event will also include a costume parade, mini hay rides and pumpkin painting. Food and cider will be available for purchase. Donations will be accepted for UNICEF.Notices, in writing, of festivals, fundraising events, newly elected officers and other news from clubs and nonprofit groups should be sent to the Focus department one week in advance of the event. Items should include the name and phone number of the person providing the information and be sent to Focus, Butler Eagle, P.O. Box 271, Butler, PA 16003.
