Every once in a while, you need a do-over. You might ask for a second chance because you made a mistake, or because you are sure you can do a better job if you get the opportunity to try again.

In the game of golf, a do-over is called a mulligan. For example, you might ask to retake a shot if you hit the ball off the tee and it lands in a different state.

That doesn't mean that hackers (bad golfers) won't call for a mulligan when they feel it's necessary. Hackers need mulligans when they foozle, which is a technical golf term taken from a German word that means "to work carelessly."

Beginning golfers are often guilty of sclaffing, which is a Scottish-English word for scraping the ground on a drive off the tee. If you know a golfer, you realize that these code words help account for their cultlike obsession with the game. It is one of the components that helps form a golfing fraternity to keep duffers (mediocre golfers) coming back to the practice links to avoid being called a hacker.

For duffers, hackers and all the rest of us, Tuesday is Mulligan Day. For the golfer in your life, surprise him or her with a tub of balls to replace missing-in-action shots that end up in the woods, the water traps or the clubhouse roof.

I found this craft at www.womansday.com. Type in "wild about dad" in the search box. Decorate the pot with markers, stickers or letters, if you'd like. The number of golf balls you have will determine the size of the pot to use.

Supplies you will need:

• 1 terra cotta flower pot

• Gesso or primer

• Acrylic paint and brushes

• Ribbon or fabric

• Newspapers

• Golf balls

Wash the pot, inside and out and let dry. Place the dried pot on your work surface covered with newspapers. Paint the inside and outside with a primer or gesso.

When dry, paint the pot in several different colors (I used paints in metallic colors). Let dry. I stuck a flag in the pot to look like a hole on a green. Wrap the ribbon or fabric around the pot and tie in a bow. Decorate as you'd like.
