Robert E. Menz, Sr., 69, of Butler died Sunday at his home.

Born April 27, 1937, in Ligonier, Pa., he was the son of Ernst N. and Irene Newhouse Menz.

Mr. Menz earned his Bachelor of Science degree in both math and biology from Slippery Rock University. He continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his master's degree in educational research and another post-graduate degree.

Mr. Menz retired in 2001 as the coordinator of federal programs for the Butler School District, where he worked for 41 years.

He was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian.

His wife, Judith M. Hensler Menz, whom he married June 11, 1960, survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert E. Menz, Jr., and his wife, Caroline Menz, of New Castle and Steven O. Menz of Butler; a daughter, Lisa Keitzer and her husband, Eugene Keitzer, of Aurora, Ill.; four grandchildren, Eric and Mark Keitzer, and Reagan and Ian Menz, and a sister, Ann Mary Campbell of Ligonier, Pa.

His son, Brian John Menz, preceded him in death in 1961.
