Glew sisters lead Mars to section golf title

Marisa Glew shot a 41 and Lauren Glew carded a 46 to lead the Mars girls golf team to a 178-212 win over North Allegheny Thursday afternoon.

The Planets (14-0 overall, 9-0 in the section) beat Pine-Richland and Center earlier in the week before downing the Tigers and have won their second straight section title.

Brittany Jones shot a 50, Megan Gibson a 51 and Terri Dederer a 54 for Mars.

Michelle Sweeney's goal off an assist from Julieanne Scott was all Karns City needed in a 1-0 road victory at Brookville in a District 9 game Thursday.Kiersten Foreback recorded the shutout in net for the Gremlins (11-3).<B>Knoch 7, Deer Lakes 1 —</B> Amanda Sharbaugh scored three goals for the Knights (7-6-1, 4-3-1) while Erin Lewis had two and Audrey Scott and Jeannie Sullivan each scored once.<B>Slippery Rock 2, Mercer 0 — </B>Jence Rhoads and Elisa McCune each scored a goal and Kyra Foley earned the shutout in net for the Rockets (13-0), who will host Conneaut Valley Saturday.

Kevin Wood and C.J.
