This bird feeding on football picks
It's feast or famine this week.
Not for me, mind you. Being an eagle in the wild, I get my fill. Swoop in on helpless prey, perhaps you've seen some video, it's impressive, actually ... never mind. Back to the subject at hand.
I see a few football teams feasting on some close — and big — wins, such as Butler, Karns City and Grove City.
I see a few other teams facing some long nights on the gridiron.
Here is the word of the bird:
SHALER at BUTLER— The Golden Tornado have dropped two straight and are hungry for what would be a huge homecoming victory. The Titans have given Butler fits the past three years, but the Tornado will extract some revenge this time.
Butler, 23-21.SENECA VALLEY at NORTHHILLS — The Raiders may be catching North Hills at the wrong time. The Indians' loss at Shaler last weekend was like poking a rabid dog with a stick. Somebody's going to get bitten and it's hard to picture North Hills sitting at 0-2 in league play.
North Hills, 28-14.KARNS CITY at CLARION— This is a huge test for the undefeated Gremlins on the road. They passed a similar test at home against Redbank Valley and they'll pass this one as well.
Karns City, 16-11.KNOCH at FRANKLIN REGIONAL— The defending state champions have reloaded and the Knights are looking for some offense after being shut out twice in a row. They won't get shut out this time, but they won't score enough points to stay in the game, either.
Franklin Regional, 39-11.MARS at UNION(N.C.) — Mismatch, mismatch, mismatch. The Planets will once again demonstrate what happens to overmatched opponents.
Mars, 50-7.BALD EAGLE at MONITEAU— Coming in with a misleading 2-3 record, Bald Eagle will put up a fight. But the Warriors are too good right now. It pains me to pick against my brethren, but perhaps I'll join them for a postgame reunion.
Moniteau, 29-16.SLIPPERY ROCK at OIL CITY — Yes, the Rockets have a shot at this one. I'd like their chances better if they were playing at home, though.
Oil City, 15-14.In other games, I like Union to defeat A-CValley 31-8, Freeport to cruise past West Shamokin 38-10, Grove City to handle Fairview 20-14 and Riverside to knock off Summit Academy 24-12.
