TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM

The Butler High School Winter Carnival was a short lived, but profit-rendering event for student groups. The theme for the 1965 carnival was Mardi Gras, and 90 percent of its profits went to the 14 student organizations that participated. The pie-throwing booth, sponsored by the Pep Club, allowed students to throw a pie at each other for a small cost. Shown are Pam Kramer, left, and Karen Kinzer. The first Winter Carnival was on Jan. 16, 1965, but according to Veronica Rozic, Butler High School assistant principal, it only lasted a few years. She said students now have a winter semi-formal, typically held in late January or early February, to give them a break, and let them get dressed up and have fun. She said they have had the winter semi-formal dances for about eight years.
