Butler golfers qualify for playoffs
Andrew Shakely and Collin Randall each carded a 38 and Grant Nagle had a 39 to lift the Butler boys golf team to a 199-221 section victory over Northgate on Thursday.
The win clinches Butler's first WPIAL playoff appearance since 2002.
The Golden Tornado (10-2) will host North Allegheny Wednesday for the section championship.

Mars 3, Freedom 0 — Emily Grice and Ellen Kenitz had seven kills apiece to power the Planets (8-3, 7-1) to a 25-12, 25-17, 25-18 victory.
Rocky Grove 3, A-C Valley 2 — Lauren Snyder had five kills, Sadie Carr four and Erica Rothen three for the Falcons, but they were edged out by the Orioles 25-20, 21-25, 24-26, 25-22, 15-12.The Falcons (1-4) led 21-15 in the fourth set before the Rocky Grove comeback. A-C Valley's junior varsity team won 2-0.
North Clarion 3, Moniteau 1 — The Warriors (1-8, 1-6) snared the first set, but North Clarion bounced back to post the KSAC win.Boys Soccer
Knoch 5, Deer Lakes 0 — Adam Sharbaugh, Doug Vogus, Kevin Wood, Josh Hashmi and Tony Doyle each tallied a goal to pace the Knights (7-4, 6-2) to the section win.
Karns City 2, East Forest 0 — Aaron McGarvey scored both goals while John Burns added an assist and Joe King the shutout in net for the Gremlins (9-2).Girls Soccer

Mars 15, Blackhawk 50 (boys); Mars 25, Blackhawk 30 (girls) — The Mars girls team (11-1, 3-1), led by Gabrielle Pierre, Samantha Brandon and Michelle Perri, grabbed the first three places and held off the Cougars for the win.Blackhawk secured the next six places before Mars wrapped up the next two spots, which was good enough for the win.The Planets boys team improved to 9-3, 2-2 with their win.
