This bird flying high with recent picks

Talk about flying high.

In case you haven’t noticed, this bird is the word: I’ve accurately predicted the outcome of 18 of 22 high school games the past two weeks.

I’d pat myself on the back if my wings could bend in such a way.

But enough on anatomy. Let’s talk football.

Try these picks on for size:

BUTLER at McDOWELL — The Golden Tornado heads north this Friday, stinging from a tough loss at Bethel Park and facing a Trojan team anxious to prove it’s all that against the WPIAL. Tough one to call, but the home team is a good choice in such instances. McDowell, 24-21.

NORTH ALLEGHENY at SENECA VALLEY — The Raiders have been playing good football and they’re hosting their rivals. The Tigers lost their quarterback to a broken collarbone and will get their hearts broken in Harmony. Seneca Valley, 17-16.

REDBANK VALLEY at KARNS CITY — One of those showdown games in the Keystone-Shortway Athletic Conference and yet another close game. Redbank rates a slight edge, but this one’s a real coin toss. Redbank, 20-18.

HAMPTON at KNOCH — Facing Hampton running back Steve Paskorz these days is like playing Russian Roulette. It’s a matter of time before this kid breaks loose and it may happen this week. Hampton, 28-17.

KEYSTONE at MONITEAU — The Warriors are facing a rugged opponent for the first time, but they’re a rugged opponent in their own right. Moniteau, 26-20.

MARS at CORNELL — The Planets are on the road, then again, the road hasn’t bothered them yet. Don’t look for Cornell to put up much of a road-block. Mars, 42-6.

GENERAL McLANE at SLIPPERY ROCK — The Rockets have yet to win a game and McLane has yet to come close to losing one. That’s not going to change here. General McLane, 38-12.

FREEPORT at BURRELL — Look for the Yellowjackets to have a break-out game offensively. Freeport, 28-10.In other games, I see Clarion defeating Union 25-13, Hickory edging Grove City 21-17 and Laurel stopping Summit Academy 23-12.Last Week: 9-2Season: 32-13
