Jean Moore

Jean Beighley Moore, 87, died Tuesday at her home in Madison, Wis.

Born Jan. 28, 1919, at her parents' home in Zelienople, she was the daughter of Herbert B. and Mary Murray Beighley.

She received a bachelor's degree at Allegheny College in Meadville, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She then received a master's degree in library science from Syracuse University.

In 1943, she became a "lady Marine" and served as a technical sergeant for 2½ years at Camp Lejeune and at the Cherry Point Marine Air Station, both in North Carolina. She was discharged from Quantico Marine Air Station in September 1945.

She then became the research librarian at the United Aircraft Corp. in East Hartford, Conn., where she met her husband, Musser M. Moore Jr., who worked in the industrial engineering department of the Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Division. They were married at the Zelienople English Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. Franklin Schott.

Mrs. Moore spent the next 20 years as a homemaker, raising her five children. They graduated with honors from high school and completing their education with college degrees gave her a great feeling of accomplishment.

She had been a den mother for the Boy Scouts, two sons became Eagle Scouts and a daughter, Nina, earned the Curved Bar rank in the Girl Scouts, the equivalent of the Eagle rank.

She re-entered the business world in 1967 as head of reference services at the Paramus Public Library in New Jersey and retired in 1988. She also was in charge of various committees and lead many seminars.

After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and visiting her children.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Nina M. Gosnell, Pamela A. Moore and Tina V. Dopf; two sons, Musser B. and Ted A. Moore; and seven grandchildren, Whitney and Drew Gosnell, Christine and Lisa Moore and Allison, Sarah and Charlie Dopf.
