Boltz's TD gives Union its 1st win since 2002

Nate Boltz scored on a 76-yard run in the second quarter for the game's only points as Union snapped a 30-game varsity football losing streak with a 6-0 win at Cambridge Springs Friday night.

The Golden Knights' last victory came in 2002.

Cambridge Springs drove inside Union's 20 on its first possession before The Knights' Jake Myers recovered a fumble to thwart the drive.

Union's defense forced three turnovers in the contest. Middle linebacker Bret Switzer led the team with 11 tackles and had a quarterback sack.

"That early fumble recovery was big. I'm sure it had an affect on how we played,"Union coach Tom Kidder said.

Boltz had nine carries for 109 yards for Union.

Summit Academy 12, Union (New Castle) 0 — The Knights scored two touchdowns within six minutes of each other in the second quarter and turned the rest over to the defense in a shutout of the Scotties.Ryan Robinson ran 13 yards for Summit's first score with 7:20 left in the second quarter.With 1:55 remaining in the first half, Leonard Brown hauled in a 21-yard scoring pass from Stephen Grandison.The Knights held Union New Castle to minus-12 yards rushing. Most of that negative yardage came on five sacks of Scotties quarterback Darrell Holmes.Grandison rushed for 78 yards and David Lawrence added 58 for Summit.

Clarion 53, A-C Valley 6 — Mike Himes scored on a 13-yard pass from Brad Rembold, but A-C Valley couldn't stay with KSAC power Clarion.Himes finished with 62 yards on 12 carries and Rembold was 6-of-17 passing for 36 yards and the lone score.But the Falcons could manage just 120 total yards in the game.Clarion had 389 total yards — 331 on the ground.Brad Rapp scored a pair of touchdowns and finished with 100 yards on 10 carries to lead Clarion.

Ethan Richter scored the only goal for Seneca Valley in a 1-0 win over Baldwin Friday night.The Raiders (1-0) play again Saturday in its kickoff tournament.

Sarah Cessar scored a goal and had two assists, and Elissa McCune also scored a goal and had an assist as SlipperyRock beat Iroquois 3-1.Kelsey Drennen also scored for the Rockets, who play Harbor Creek Saturday.
