The Slippery Rock School Board Monday night:• Hired Diane Snyder as assistant business manager. This is a new position and the salary was set at $38,000 per year.• Hired these teachers for the high school: Chad Wolfe, learning support; Dirk Matonak, business education; and William Shephards and Adrienne Orris, English. Also hired were Jeffrey Tomini, middle school math teacher; and Leslie Colosimo, elementary literacy coach.• Readmitted three students expelled during the last school year. These students have met the criteria required by their respective expulsions. Board members couldn't release any more information about these students.• Bought a new wrestling mat, floor padding and wall padding for the wrestling room at the high school for $24,409.• Heard from parent Ted Kneupper, who questioned the criteria used to choose a valedictorian at the high school. Kneupper said he was concerned that his son, who took a class through Slippery Rock University while in high school, would be eliminated from the valedictorian race. Board members referred the issue to the educational programming committee.

The Butler School Board Monday night:• Rejected a resolution to participate in the Intermediate Unit IVGas Consortium. Cathy Rogers, business manager, reports the district's bus contractor found a better rate.• Bought a high-lift at a cost of about $35,000.• Appointed board member John Conrad as vice chair of the finance, personnel and operations committee, replacing Cindy Davis who resigned from the board.

The Zelienople council Monday night:• Approved a 1 year, $2,700 contract with JBMechanical Inc. for heating, ventilating and air-conditioning system maintenance for the borough.• Approved the Fall Festival Event, sponsored by the Zelienople-Harmony Business Association, set for Oct. 14 and 15.• Approved the workers' compensation coverage for the borough's volunteer fire department.
