SIDELINED?Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire said there's a "99.999" percent chance Francisco Liriano will go on the DL after the rookie left-hander has an MRI on Thursday to determine whether his injury is in his forearm, elbow or both. Liriano is 12-3 with a league-leading 2.19 ERA.

SIGNEDCleveland's Cliff Lee signed a $14 million, three-year contract extension with the club Tuesday, another long-term commitment by the Indians to a young, proven player. In 99 career starts, the 27-year old is 44-25 with a 4.47 ERA. This year, Lee is 9-8 with a 4.75 ERA in a team-high 33 starts.

BIG APPLE RETURNNew York beat the San Diego Padres 3-2 Tuesday night to ruin the homecoming of former Mets catcher Mike Piazza. Piazza went 1-for-4 in his first game at Shea Stadium since he signed with the Padres in the offseason. He received loud cheers from the moment he exited the dugout for pregame stretching to his last at-bat in the eighth inning.

STREAKINGThe Los Angeles Dodgers won their 11th straight game with a 4-2 victory over Colorado on Monday night. The club record is 15 in a row, set in 1924. The Dodgers are now tied with Cincinnati for first place in the National League wild card race. ... The Los Angeles Angels are a major league-best 24-10 since the All-Star break after a 5-4 win over Cleveland on Tuesday. ... Oakland won its sixth straight game, 7-6 over Texas. ... Kansas City's Luke Hudson won his fifth straight decision in a 6-4 victory over Boston.

SLUGGINGCincinnati matched a season-high with 17 hits in beating St. Louis 10-3 on Tuesday. The Reds now trail the NL Central-leading Cardinals by 3½ games. The 17 hits are also the same number that St. Louis had in a 13-1 rout in the opener of the three game set.

SLUMPINGTony Armas Jr. took the loss in Florida's 4-2 win over Washington on Tuesday, and is now 1-5 with an 8.18 ERA in his last eight starts.
