Stock car football kicks off Monday

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Some people just get way too creative with their cars.

The mayhem begins in the Butler Farm Show arena Monday with a game of stock car football, which is the motor sport equivalent of a soccer game.

Each game consists of about 20 cars and drivers in team form, with two or three cars on a team.

While demolition cars are used for the event, wrecking into an opponent's car warrants penalization.

However, the 200-pound, 6-foot high ball used for the event can cause damage, and it often does.

The object of the game is to get the ball into the opposing team's end zone to get a touchdown. The two best teams compete an a "Super Bowl" championship game.

The stock car football game is free to farm show visitors, and starts at 8 p.m. in the arena.

But that's just the beginning.

The figure-eight race will be featured as part of the events on Aug. 8.

The race involves five to eight compact cars on the figure-eight shaped track at a time. Drivers need to outthink and outmaneuver each other to win.

There is a $3 arena admission charge to the show.

The evening of Aug. 9 will showcase a four-wheel drive pulling contest, including street stock, modified street stock, high performance stock and hot stock diesel vehicles.

The pull will start at 7:30 p.m. in the arena and admission is $3 for the event.

The truck and tractor pulls will start at 6 p.m. Aug. 10. Categories include limited farm/super farm tractors, pro stock diesel 4-by-4 trucks and Grand American "Smoker Series"tractors.

There is a $3 charge for the pulls.

Finally, the farm show will end with a bang — that is, the sound of cars hitting one another in the demolition derby.

Like any demolition derby, the cars will remain on the track, crashing into one another, until there's only one driver left on the track.

The derby starts at 8 p.m. Friday in the arena. There is a $3 admission charge to the show.
