Soroptimist International of Butler County closed the club year by awarding more than $3,000 in community service grants.The grants were awarded to community groups and individuals working to improve the lives of women and girls.Recipients included Family Services of Butler Memorial Hospital, the HOPE Project-Center for Community Resources, Butler County Children's Center, Cathy Woller, and VOICe.Proceeds from Rose Day and the annual spring fashion show were used to fund the grants.Officers for the new club year include

Teri Miller, president;

Crystal Fine, president-elect;

Gail Paserba, vice president;

Cathy Bronder, secretary; and

Phyllis Laporte, treasurer.———

Outlook Pointe at Saxonburg hosted a Great American Cookout recently, raising $426.75 to benefit the Friends of the Saxonburg Library.———

Paul LaFayette of the Cranberry Elks Lodge 2249 in Cranberry Township was named a grand trustee during the national convention of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.As a trustee, LaFayette will oversee budgets, supply purchases and management of funds for the Grand Lodge, the national governing body of the Elks.———Winners at the Butler Duplicate Bridge Club game held July 6 were
