12:58 a.m. Friday — John L. Mahon Jr., 23, of Butler was charged with driving under the influence and careless driving after his vehicle struck a utility pole on West New Castle Street.

6:55 p.m. Wednesday — Police are investigating a brush fire ignited by the Holly Shelter in Alameda Park. The Greenwood Village and Meridian volunteer fire departments responded. Anyone with information about how the fire started should call township police at 724-285-9600.

Wednesday — A Hyundai Sonata driven by an unknown person was traveling on Saxonburg Boulevard in Clinton Township overnight when it struck a road sign and went over an embankment. The driver fled the scene on foot. Police are investigating.4:52 p.m. Thursday — A Butler County couple is accused of animal cruelty. Sonia Hill and Joseph Parker, ages unavailable, allegedly left their two dogs at their former residence at 89 Main St. in Bruin after moving out. The dogs were left in the house without food and water since May 19. The animals were turned over to the Clarion County Humane Society.

6:10 p.m. Tuesday — A tractor-trailer driven by Mustapha Thorb, 36, of Wixom, Mich., was traveling on Interstate 80 in Pine Township when it overturned. Both Thorb and his passenger, Sean Fuller, 37, of Detroit, were wearing seat belts and were not injured. Thorb was cited for careless driving and not driving within lanes.State Police, KittanningTuesday — River Road Beverage in East Brady reported the theft of several dollars from a pop machine at its Route 68 location between 8 p.m. Monday and 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

1:33 p.m. Wednesday — Shawn Ferrer, 30, of Butler was charged with retail theft. He is accused of stealing more than $42 worth of gas from the Route 422 Sheetz in Slippery Rock Township. He also is accused of driving off without paying five previous times at the same location.
