10:45 p.m. Monday — Gloria Hess, 32, was arrested for allegedly assaulting her husband, Robert Hess, 30, at the couple's Brown Avenue home. She is charged with simple assault and harassment.3:39 a.m. Saturday — Police chased down and caught Frank Burka IV, 18, of Butler Township, who was riding a stolen bike on South Cliff Street. The defendant allegedly admitted to having taken the bike several days earlier from a Fourth Avenue home in the city.Officers noted that Burka smelled of alcohol and had a double-bladed knife in his pants pocket. He is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, possession of an illegal weapon, underage drinking and disorderly conduct. Police noted the bike was returned to its owner, Stacey Holbein of Butler, who had reported it stolen from her yard May 11.
9:57 p.m. Tuesday — David Taylor, 23, of Rural Valley, Armstrong County, was arrested for allegedly shoplifting DVDs and perfume at the Wal-Mart, Butler Commons. Police found him carrying a switchblade knife.He was arraigned on charges of retail theft and possession of an illegal weapon, and placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $2,500 bond.
Wednesday — Police are seeking the owner of property that included an undisclosed amount of currency found at the Slippery Rock Campground in Slippery Rock Township. The owner can claim the property by calling the barracks at 724-284-8100.3:37 p.m. Monday — Steven Defelice, 20, of Butler was arrested for scuffling with a Boscov's security officer after allegedly shoplifting undisclosed items from the store at the Clearview Mall in Center Township.Security officer George Moore, 49, of Butler suffered cuts and bruises in the struggle. Defelice, who dropped the items valued at $150, managed to get away but was caught in Butler following a two-hour search assisted by Butler police.Defelice was arraigned on robbery and other charges, and placed in the Butler Country Prison in lieu of $5,000 bond.
Midnight Wednesday — Douglas Reiber, no age given, of Volant was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Old Ash Road in Springfield Township.Wednesday — About 4,000 feet of Romex wire and 300 feet of copper tubing were stolen between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 7:45 a.m. Wednesday from a construction site at the Hampton Inn on Route 208 in Springfield Township, Mercer County. McCurley Electric of Bessemer owns the wire and D&LMagee Plumbing owns the tubing.
5:15 p.m. Tuesday — Alaptop computer was stolen from Grove City College student Phillip Beck, 18, of Coppersburg as he was packing his belongings to leave campus. The computer is a black HPCompaq Tablet PC.Saturday — It was reported that sometime between May 10 and Saturday a Pioneer car stereo model DEH-P2500 was stolen from a Ford Probe owned by Nathaniel Shirey of 311 Lincoln Ave. The car had been left unlocked. No other personal items were taken.
