The Envirothon was held May 2 at Jennings Environmental Education Center. Nineteen junior and senior high school teams participated.

The Envirothon is designed to give students an opportunity to acquire and demonstrate their knowledge of environmental resources and interactive relationships between resources and human activities.

The students were challenged in areas of forestry, aquatics, wildlife and water stewardship and changing climates. Tests were conducted by personnel from the Bureau of Forestry, the state Game Commission, the state Fish and Boat Commission, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Department of Environmental Protection, Butler County Recycling Department and the Butler County Conservation District.

The Seneca Valley team is under the direction of teachers Rebecca Finch and Dana Hadley. The team will represent Butler County in the annual State Envirothon in Chambersburg on May 22 and 23.
