Grootegoed lifts SV past Butler
Courtney Grootegoed tossed a two-hit shutout as playoff-bound Seneca Valley blanked Butler 6-0 in high school softball action Friday afternoon.
Tina Mangola singled and doubled for the Raiders (11-7, 6-4), who clinched the fourth spot in the section and a WPIAL playoff berth.
Carly Ziegler and Kelly Anzaldi collected the only two hits for the Golden Tornado.
Grootegoed, just a sophomore, struck out thre and walked two in seven innings of work.
Butler starter Karra White struck out one, but issued eight walks and eight hits.
Grootegoed also showed her prowess at the plate, collecting two singles.
It was the Section 1-AAAA finale for both teams. Butler finishes its season winless at 0-18.

The Knoch girls 3,200-meter relay team of Libby Burris, Kayla Davis, Audrey Scott and Amanda Sharbaugh posted a time of 10 minutes, 17.19 seconds for a third place finish at the Pine-Richland Invitational Friday night.Sarah Cooper also placed third in the discus with a throw of 102 feet, 4 inches and also placed seventh in the shot (31-11).CarolCress was fourth in the shot put (34-8) and seventh in the javelin (96-6).Scott also placed sixth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:37.19.Burris placed seventh in the 800 (2:30.5), Beth Stock seventh in the discus (93-9) and Emily Huselton eighth in the 100 (12.82) to round out the Knights' placers.
