The seventh-seeded Avalanche wrapped up the first-round series in five games to advance to the second round for the eighth time in 10 postseasons. ... San Jose won its fourth straight game and eliminated Nashville from the playoffs with a 2-1 victory in Game 5. The Sharks advanced to the Western Conference semifinals for the second straight season.
SAVESJose Theodore made 11 of his 50 saves in overtime to help Colorado defeat Dallas 3-2 on Sunday. It's the second time Theodore has stopped at least 50 shots in a postseason game. He had a 56-save performance in his first NHL playoff game with Montreal, a 4-3 triple-overtime victory over New Jersey in 1997. ... Rookie Cam Ward stopped 30 shots to win his third straight start as Carolina beat Montreal 2-1.
SHUTOUTBuffalo goalie Ryan Miller recorded his first playoff shutout, stopping 24 shots in a 3-0 win over Philadelphia on Sunday. Miller, who had only one shutout during the regular season, became the third Sabres rookie to record a playoff shutout and first since Steve Shields in a 3-0 win over Ottawa on April 27, 1997.
