Schwab 100th birthday
Doyle Schwab of Mars will celebrate his 100th birthday Saturday with a gathering of family and friends at the Mars United Presbyterian Church.
Schwab was born April 29, 1906, in Mars.
The oldest in a family of four sons and four daughters, Schwab resides with his sister Mary Schwab in their family home in Mars.
Schwab is retired. A former teacher, he taught English, history and music and worked at Edinboro State Teacher's College supervising student teachers.
He later received a bachelor of music degree in composition. He is also the author of "A Pair of Hands and "A Laugh a Mile."
A veteran of the Army, serving from 1942 to 1945, he is a member of the YMCA, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, AARP and the American Legion Post 787 in Mars.
He is also a member of Mars United Presbyterian Church, where he has served as an elder, organist and choir director.
Schwab enjoys playing bridge, watching television and game shows, reading and watching traffic.
