Program at Grove City to target DUI

GROVE CITY — Street Smart, an interactive presentation designed to help prevent teen drinking, drunken driving and illegal drug use, will be presented to students at Grove City High School and George Junior Republic Wednesday.

The presentation will be made at Grove City High School from 8:12 to 10 a.m. and at George Junior Republic from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. and 2 to 3:15 p.m.

During the presentation, a team of two certified paramedics with the Stay Alive from Education group will walk students through what happens at a trauma scene using the medical equipment they employ daily in their jobs. They will experience taking a pulse, loading the victim onto a backboard and simulating an IV-line being inserted.

Students also will learn what it is like to be the victim. They will hear the stories behind the crashes, the choices that individuals were given and the results of irresponsible actions.
