Rock takes 2 from Wheeling
SLIPPERY ROCK — Billy Herman, Chris Tolliver, Rich Michalek and J.D. Lowry went a combined 8-for-13 with six RBI and six runs scored to power the Slippery Rock University baseball team to a 10-3 victory over Wheeling Jesuit in the first game of a doubleheader Monday.
In the nightcap, the Rock followed up with a 5-1 triumph to improve to 26-11, giving SRU three doubleheader sweeps in four days.
All four players had two hits each in the first game with Michalek driving home three runs and Herman, a Grove City High graduate, and Tolliver scoring two runs apiece.
Mars graduate Josh Rape pitched five shutout innings, allowed just three hits, struck out four and walked none.
In the second game, Phil Butch went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Todd Schickling also was 3-for-3 with three RBI and Dave Gonos had two hits in as many at-bats.
Troy Wilson went the distance for The Rock (26-11), scattering seven hits.
