Edward McClellan
Edward J. McClellan, 83, of the Forest Heights Apartments, formerly of Muntz Avenue, died Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born April 30, 1922, in Ford City, he was the son of Hugh and Hazel Hepinger McClellan.
He was a 1941 graduate of East Forest High School, Marienville. He attended the Butler Business College and was a 1947 graduate of Robert Morris College.
A World War II veteran, he was a staff sergeant with the 99th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany and was awarded several medals including the Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters.
Mr. McClellan owned and operated the M&M Market on Pearl Street and later Al's Market on Jefferson Street during the early 1950s.
He began his accounting career as a purchasing agent for Magnetics, which is a division of Spang and Co. He retired in 1987 after 35 years, after working as a sales manager and then as divisional controller.
He also served as treasurer and manager for the Magnetics Federal Credit Union for more than 30 years, retiring in 1987.He was a member of St. Fidelis Parish in Meridian and the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus.Additionally, he was a lifetime member of V.F.W.Post 249, the American Legion, Elks Lodge, Roman Catholic Men's Club, Moose Lodge No. 64 and the AARP.Mr. McClellan was an avid golfer and a former member of the Butler Country Club. He participated in and hosted the Shootout at the country club for years.He also ran the Cancer Scramble at the Lake Arthur Country Club for several years.He enjoyed playing cards, sports and spending time with his family and friends.Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Frances Phillips, whom he married on April 25, 1942; two sons, Joseph McClellan and his wife, MaryAnn, of Canton, Ohio, and Steven McClellan and his wife, Holly, of Hudson, Ohio; two daughters, Kathy Cervenka and her husband, Frank, of Butler and Vicki Taylor-Groves and her husband, David, of Beaver; seven grandchildren, Cpl. Nick Newcaster of the state police in Butler, Jennifer Ann Newcaster of Boston, Mass., Eric Taylor and his wife, Jennifer, of Pittsburgh, Kristen Young and her husband, Jason, of Cranberry, Joseph A. McClellan of Columbus, Ohio, Julia E. McClellan of Canton and Matthew S. McClellan of Hudson, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Jason Young and Sydney Nicole Taylor; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Andring of Marienville and Mrs. Hazel Sharrow of Wattsburg; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Jr. and William McClellan, and a son-in-law, Gary L. Taylor.
<B>McCLELLAN — </B>Friends of Edward J. McClellan, who died Friday, March 10, 2006, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, </B>201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Monday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, Meridian. Entombment will follow at the Butler County Memorial Mausoleum.The bereavement committee of St. Fidelis Parish will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to conduct a Parish Vigil Service, and members of the Knights of Columbus Council 866 will meet at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to recite the Rosary.Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Duff Road, Suite 304, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
