Butler lineman heads to Kenyon

Hough

BUTLERTWP — Butler High School defensive tackle Marcus Hough will continue his academic and football careers at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.

The 6-foot-2, 275-pound Hough missed seven games during his senior season after tearing his ACL and MCL early in the 2005 campaign.

"We really missed his presence on defense,"Butler coach Garry Cathell said. "It's nice to see that some schools still recognize the kind of player he can be.

"Had he not gotten hurt, Marcus would have probably gone to a bigger school."

Kenyon, which is a Division III program that competes in the North Coast Athletic Conference with Allegheny College, finished 6-4 under third-year head coach Ted Stanley last fall. The Lords finished 2-8 each of the previous two seasons.

Kenyon has nine defensive linemen returning next year, five of whom were recruited last year.

Hough had two solo tackles, 16 assists and two fumble recoveries in three games for Butler last season.

"Between his sophomore and junior years, he played every position on our offensive line, both sides,"Cathell said. "He would have been a two-way starter for us last year had he not gotten injured.

"We felt horrible for him, but I'm glad it's all working out now."

Hough started at nose guard or defensive tackle his junior year and accumulated 18 solo tackles, 22 assists, six tackles for loss and a quarterback sack.

Butler's heavyweight wrestler the past two years, Hough is not planning to wrestle at Kenyon.
