PAST PROJECTS

SLIPPERY ROCK — Other major construction projects in the Slippery Rock School District in the past five years include:

A $6.6 million renovation and addition project to Slippery Rock Middle School began in October 2001 and finished in January 2003. The project was the first major renovation since the school was built in 1971.Goals for the project included creating a safer, more community-friendly entrance to the school and creating more classrooms to eliminate the need for temporary ones that had been used for several years.Changes to the school included:• The addition of six classrooms, four from new construction and two created from middle school offices.• New office space in the main entrance where student lockers used to be• New administration offices• Handicap accessibility included changes in the school and administration offices• Renovations to the art, music, home economics and shop areas• Computer wiring upgraded• Library expanded• The large group instructional classroom renovated• Expanded parking lot• Room renovations• Heating and ventilation upgraded

A $3.6 million renovation and addition project began in spring 2001 and was completed in March 2002 at Har-Mer Elementary School.Goals at Har-Mer, like those at the middle school, were to provide more classroom space, add a gymnasium and renovate the multipurpose room so it could be used for various activities.Changes to the school included:• Made the office more secure• Added a 350 seat gymnasium• Expanded library• Added computer laboratory, combined the art and music rooms and two other classrooms• Added storage space• Upgraded heating and mechanical systems
