Mars students will stage 'Bye Bye Birdie'

MARS — A production of the musical "Bye Bye Birdie" will be offered by students in the Mars School District at 7:30 p.m. Friday and March 11.

The play will be held in the Mars High School auditorium on Route 228.

Tickets are being sold for $7, and seats may be reserved by calling 724-625-1581.

The satire on American society is based on the book by Michael Stewart, with music by Lee Adams and lyrics by Charles Strouse.

The 1960s tale centers on rock star Conrad Birdie, whose life changes during a publicity stunt designed to help him evade service in the Army.

The show is being directed by Charlesa Fassinger with the assistance of Liz Alonso, Amanda Evans and Elise Ferguson.

Dane Skroupa will act as choral director with the help of Michelle Barton, Amy Brooks and David Obringer.

The show was choreographed by Amanda Iman. Kelsey Schroth and Hannah Taggart are dance captains.

Marlin and Carol Clay were producers and technical directors with the help of Ron Weaver.

Michael Holupka and Ron Molinaro are rehearsal conductors, with publicity done by Sara Pecora and Sarah Ufner.
