SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University Institute for Learning in Retirement will host a preview day of its spring classes from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. March 4 in the multi-purpose room at the university's student union.
Information on upcoming classes will be available and the event will include demonstrations and samples of previous class work.
Membership in the ILR is $60 for each semester. Members are permitted to take unlimited classes.

GROVE CITY — The Grove City Theatre Arts Guild will host auditions for its Kid's Mystery Theatre program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 7 at the Legacy Banquet and Conference Center, 1946 Mercer Road.The program, open to students age 8 to 15, will be performed April 1. The event will include a performance by the Clue Club, for participants ages 8 to 12 and the Teen Sleuths for those ages 13 to 15.Parents must be present during their child's audition to receive information.

ZELIENOPLE — The Zelienople Rotary Club is offering four $1,000 college scholarships and one $1,000 vocational scholarship to seniors in the Seneca Valley School District.To be eligible, the seniors must live within the 16063 or 16037 ZIP codes. The club puts emphasis on students who demonstrate financial need and have exhibited a spirit of community volunteerism.Applicants are asked to write a 500-word essay.Applications will be available Wednesday through March 15 at the Seneca Valley Senior High School Guidance Department. Entries for the William A. DiCuccio Memorial Essay Contest are now being accepted for students in grades nine through 12 at Butler Knoch and Moniteau high schools.The essay question is "What are the qualities that a voter should look for in a candidate for political office?"Each entry must be typed or computer generated on standard paper and must not exceed 500 words. Spelling, punctuation, grammar and content will be judged.Essays are due to the Butler Rotary Club by May 1. The club's scholarship committee will select the top three.No essays will be returned. The winning entry will be published in the Butler Eagle on May 20, Primary Election Day in Pennsylvania.Cash awards will be presented to the students who submit the three best essays overall. Relatives of members of either Rotary Club of Butler are not eligible to enter this contest. Entry instructions are available in each school's guidance office.
