Let's list the "date movies" parodied in "Date Movie." No sense putting any work into this — the filmmakers certainly didn't.

There's "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," "Wedding Crashers," "Wedding Planner," "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "My Best Friend's Wedding."

And "Kill Bill" and "King Kong."

Busting a gut yet?

OK, try these — "Bridget Jones's Diary," "Say Anything," "Napoleon Dynamite," "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith," "Meet the Parents," "Shallow Hal," "Meet the Fockers," "Hitch," "Legally Blonde," "When Harry Met Sally."

And "Lord of the Rings" and "Dodgeball."

Apparently, two of the guys who wrote "Scary Movie" missed that class in "Parody Comedies: 101." It's not enough to just make the reference. You've got to make something funny out of the reference. See "Airplane," "The Naked Gun," "Hot Shots" and the first "Scary Movie."

Here they landed the Alyson Hannigan, the wacky Buffy pal and "girl from band camp" in "American Pie." She's a Lindsay Lohan without the psycho-drama. And in "Date Movie" she wears her fat suit to her big fat Greek diner, gets body-work from Pimp My Ride, and hooks up with her "knight in shining armor." That would be Adam Campbell, as in "Who the heck is Adam Campbell?"

Eddie Griffin plays her mack daddy Daddy, Jennifer Coolidge does her best Barbra Streisand impression (not that good) as mother of the groom, and assorted stuntwomen (and one black stunt man) do Alyson's pratfalls, krunk-dances (Rize) and the like.

They even ruin the "Say a Little Prayer" number from "My Best Friend's Wedding."

You've seen the commercials, Hannigan in the whale suit, shaking it to "The Milkshake Song." Funny. But that's close to the only laugh in "Date Movie." Unless you enjoy cat-on-the-toilet jokes.
