Screenings detect risk for heart attack, stroke
The Stroke Program and the HeartCenter at Butler Memorial Hospital will offer several cardiovascular screenings in the coming months.
The screenings, held at the hospital, are scheduled for:
- Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
- Feb. 25 from 8 a.m. to noon.
March 25 from 8 a.m. to noon.
These screenings are designed to detect a person’s risk for heart attack or stroke. They will include:
- A personal and family cardiovascular risk assessment
- Blood pressure screening
- Height, weight and body mass index
- Pulse rate and regularity
- Carotid bruits test
- Ankle/brachial index for peripheral vascular disease
- Lipid profile, a blood test for cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and HDL — available for a $10 fee, optional
- Carotid Doppler — available for a $25 fee, optional
Except for the optional selections, these screenings are free but registration is required. Appointments are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
