The "Driven to Succeed" fundraising campaign this fall raised $29,868 for the Butler School District.

It was sponsored by the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation.

Tickets were sold for a variety of prizes, with the grand prize being a 2006 Hyundai Tucson donated by Mike Kelly of Kelly Chevrolet-Cadillac-Hyundai.

Kelly's only stipulation was the raffle tickets cost just $1 so anyone would have the opportunity to win the grand prize.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Veith of Butler won the SUV grand prize.

Tickets were sold by a variety of people, schools and businesses. The Golden Tornado Marching Band also sold them to help raise funds for next year's band trip to the Rose Bowl Parade.

Of the money raised by each school in the district, 80 percent, or a total of $10,936, will go to those schools for equipment or programs for students as determined by each school.

Eighty percent, or $12,958, of the money collected by band members will help pay the expenses of individual band members going to the Rose Bowl Parade.

The remaining 20 percent, or $5,973, will be used by the Tornado foundation for scholarships for graduating seniors to continue their education after high school.

Fourteen second prizes also were awarded one at each of the schools in the district.
