BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College men's basketball coach Tony Grenek found it hard to watch much of his team's game against the Community College of Beaver County Wednesday night.

But the first five and a half minutes took the cake.

The Pioneers (7-8, 0-3) committed eight turnovers and were outscored 18-2 by the 14:27 mark.

The Titans went on to defeat host BC3, 99-56.

"(CCBC) is known for their pressure, and I think we came out a bit scared," said Grenek. "They came at us with a 2-1-2 trap early on."

By the time BC3 managed its first field goal of the game — a 3-pointer from sophomore Will Miller that made it 20-7 — more than seven minutes had elapsed.

Miller was the lone Pioneer to score in double digits, tallying a game-high 24 points. That total included four 3-pointers.

"Will had been struggling shooting the ball, but he played well tonight," said Grenek.

"He brings experience to the floor and he's a smart player. He doesn't try to do too much."

The Titans' ball-hawking defense forced 25 turnovers from BC3, 15 in the first half. It helped the visitors lead 50-21 at intermission.

At the other end of the floor, CCBC's put forth a well-balanced offense.

The team featured four players with at least 11 points, led by Jason Arrington and Carlos Pena, who each contributed 18.

BC3's Jeremy Peterson added nine points and seven rebounds in defeat.

The Pioneers were outrebounded 41-22.

"We're dressing only nine guys right now because of some injuries," said Grenek. "Matt Lobaugh has been out with a sprained ankle and we've gone 1-3 without him. But we expect to have him back by our next game, Saturday at Potomac State."
