Tuesday — Jill Jancse, 23, of Muddy Creek Township was charged with theft for allegedly running off Friday night with cartons of cigarettes from two stores in Butler. The thefts occurred about 90 minutes apart.Jancse is accused of taking two cartons and a pack of cigarettes from the 7-Eleven store on Pillow Street at 9:42 p.m. At 11 p.m., she made off with two cartons of cigarettes from the Honey Bear store on East Jefferson Street, police saidShe is charged with retail theft. The estimated value of the stolen cigarettes is $164.Tuesday — Ryan Mullen, 19, of Butler Township was charged in a hit-and-run crash that damages two parked vehicles on Center Avenue about 8:10 p.m. Jan. 3.Police said their investigation identified Mullen as the driver of a Jeep Cherokee that struck a pickup truck owned by Joshua Conklin and a car owned by Juan Aguirre, both of Butler.Mullen is charged with accidents involving damage to unattended vehicles, careless driving and driving an unregistered vehicle.

6:49 p.m. Monday — Raymond Leon Jr., 40, of Lyndora and Jeffrey A. Smith, 34, of Butler are accused of stealing cigarettes at the 3 B's Tobacco store in the Point Plaza. Police said Leon took four cartons and a pack and Smith took one carton.The suspects, who a short time earlier allegedly stole a case of beer at a Bon Aire Plaza store, are charged with retail theft. They were arraigned on charges and placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bond each.

1:15 a.m. today — Steven Rider Jr., no age given, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., was arrested for driving under the influence following a police chase that began at Route 268 and Bruin Road in Bruin.In addition to DUI, Rider is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police and several other violations. He was arraigned on charges and placed in the Butler County Prison.11:30 p.m. Monday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Shaun Grill, 22, of Franklin, Venango County, struck an embankment and rolled onto its roof at Route 258 and Fergus Road in Slippery Rock Township.Grill, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken with moderate injuries to ACMH Hospital in Kittanning.
