Butler High School graduate Kim Nowakowski scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in California (Pa.) University's 84-72 women's basketball win at Bloomsburg University on Saturday.

It was the seventh double-double this season for Nowakowski, a sophomore forward for the Vulcans.

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Marcus Vick decided to turn pro Saturday, one day after he was kicked off the Virginia Tech team for transgressions on and off the field.Virginia Tech cited the cumulative effects of Vick's legal problems and his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Jan. 2 bowl in dismissing him from the team Friday.During the game, he was caught on tape stomping on the left calf of Louisville All-American defensive end Elvis Dumervil after a tackle.Vick was also stopped for driving 38 mph in a 25 mph zone and driving with a revoked or suspended license on Dec. 17.

CHICAGO — Lovie Smith became the fourth Bears coach voted The Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year, joining two-time winners George Halas and Mike Ditka and 2001 recipient Dick Jauron.Chicago went 11-5 this season, won the NFC North and earned a first-round playoff bye after going 5-11 in 2004.

KAPALUA, Hawaii — Stuart Appleby had to go an extra hole to make it three in a row Sunday at the Mercedes Championships, making a birdie on the par-5 18th to force a playoff against Vijay Singh, then winning on the same hole with a bunker shot that nearly went in.Appleby joined Gene Littler in 1955-57 as the only players to win the winners-only tournament three straight times.

LOS ANGELES — Jeff Weaver is almost certainly leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers.Weaver led the Dodgers with a career-high 14 wins last year, but he and the team failed to reach an agreement on a new contract by Sunday night's 9 p.m. PST deadline. Now, the Dodgers are prohibited from signing him until May 1.Weaver earned $9.35 million with Los Angeles last season.

NEW YORK — Carlos Baldomir is not the undisputed welterweight championship after all.The boxer who upset champion Zab Judah on Saturday night won only the WBC version of the title because he never paid the sanctioning fees to the WBA and the IBF.Baldomir won a unanimous 12-round decision over Judah, but said in the post-fight news conference he didn't want to pay the other fees.

ADELBODEN, Switzerland — The International Ski Federation wants the U.S. ski team to address the latest controversy surrounding outspoken reigning overall World Cup champion Bode Miller.United States Skiing and Snowboard Association President and CEO Bill Marolt is expected to fly to next week's World Cup races in Switzerland to speak to Miller, who said in a "60 Minutes" interview that partying affected his performance in the past.Miller argued the comments were taken out of context and his agent, Lowell Taub, criticized the way the interview was characterized in excerpts and media accounts.
