The Butler Eagle is planning its annual Stork Derby contest for the first baby born in 2006.
The first baby born at Butler Memorial Hospital or to a Butler Eagle subscriber will win prizes from participating businesses and will be featured in an upcoming edition.
Submissions will be accepted from parents, hospitals or attending physicians. All submissions will be verified.

Orders are now being accepted for a box lunch sale sponsored by the Butler County 4-H Travel Club.Cost is $5 for a ham and cheese sandwich, macaroni salad, dessert and fruit. Orders will be delivered on Jan. 13.To order, call Sandy Cox at 724-865-9003 by Jan. 6.
GROVE CITY — The Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV currently offers free adult basic education classes to residents of Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties age 16 and older.Classes are aimed at those seeking to learn reading, writing, the English language or to develop other basic skills. Preparation is also available for high school equivalency diploma testing.Those interested in participating can attend a class at any time. SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Area Parks and Recreation will sponsor a Hoops for the Hungry 3 on 3 basketball tournament at 1 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Aebersold Recreational Center at Slippery Rock University.The event, open to students in grades 3 to 8, is in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Donations will benefit local families.For more information or to register, call 724-794-8180.
