Frances Schmidt of Saxonburg will celebrate her 90th birthday in January during a reception with family, friends and her church congregation.

The former Frances Porter was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Millerstown. She married the late Kenny Schmidt in 1947.

She has one child, Keith Porter of Raleigh, N.C. She also has two grandchildren.

Mrs. Schmidt enjoys playing bingo and participating in senior outings. She belongs to the Red Hat Society and is a longtime member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sarver, where she has served as a youth fellowship adviser. She also was a youth adviser at the Buffalo Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Schmidt has been a member and president of the Rebekahs and a member of the Eastern Star. She also is known for her talent as a ceramic artist, cook and gardener.
