Shoop hits 1,000, but Knoch falls
Jordan Shoop hit two milestones Friday, but his team suffered a tough section loss.
Shoop, a senior point guard for the Knoch boys basketball team, scored a career-high 38 points and went over the 1,000-point mark in his career, but the Knights squandered a nine-point fourth quarter lead in losing to Hampton 84-81 Friday night.
“I honestly didn’t even know he scored that many points,” said Knoch coach and Les Shoop of his son’s 38-point performance. “I was worried about winning the game. That was definitely a career high and he had a great game.”
Jordan Shoop was 13-of-19 from the field and was 9-of-12 from the free throw line.
His effort helped Knoch to build a 62-53 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Knights (6-2 overall, 1-1 in the section) couldn’t hold it.
Instead, Hampton’s Bob Bartley scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half.
“The difference down the stretch is we allowed dribble penetration and we didn’t box out on rebounds,” Les Shoop said.
Scott Muska added 16 points for Knoch and Rob Briggs added 11.
Knoch came into the game giving up just 43 points per game. Hampton, led by Bartley’s 22 and 20 points from Joe Cangilla, nearly doubled that.
