Oliver L. Girdwood

Oliver L. Girdwood, 87, of Cabot died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 28, 1918, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Aylmer Hunter Girdwood Sr. and Frances Randal Girdwood.

He served his country in World War II from 1941 through 1945, stayed in the Army Reserves and retired in 1979 as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Girdwood retired in 1978 as an assistant manager for the Pennsylvania State Employment Bureau in Pittsburgh.

He was a member of the Gospel Fellowship Presbyterian Church in America, where he was treasurer and deacon and Sunday school teacher for years.

He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Bryson Girdwood, whom be married Sept. 25, 1941; two sons, Randal B. (Verna) Girdwood of Portersville and Dean Oliver (Pauline) Girdwood of Freedom; three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Linda) Skurka of Butler, Mrs. Joseph (Carolyn) Mihalevic of West Deer Township and Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Harkin of Center Moriches, N.Y.; a brother, Aylmer (Naomi) Girdwood Jr. of West Deer Township; two sisters-in-law, Jane Mahan and Lois Dambaugh; and three brothers-in-law, Ira Wood, Richard (Ginny) Bryson and Dave Parke.

He also is survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A sister, three brothers and a granddaughter preceded him in death.

GIRDWOOD — Friends of Oliver L. Girdwood, who died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the FOX FUNERAL HOME, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Nick Protos officiating. Burial will follow at Deer Creek Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the Gospel Fellowship PCA, McFann Road, Valencia, PA 16059.
