Cheer:

The news continues to be good surrounding Slippery Rock Borough's revitalization efforts. The latest update Tuesday dealt with activities to date aimed at improving the area at Main and Franklin streets.

"Overwhelming cooperation" were the words Perry O'Malley, executive director of the Butler Redevelopment Authority, used to describe property owners' response to what is being planned. Such cooperation would not be forthcoming in some other places.

Meanwhile, it was no doubt a relief to some owners of Slippery Rock property to hear O'Malley say that the project could be carried out even if some balked at cooperating with the project.

"We can work around any property," O'Malley said. "We don't have to force anybody out."

O'Malley said it is his intent to have a better description of the project available in February or March. According to O'Malley, the goal remains to acquire grants that would necessitate no financial outlay by the borough.

That is a lofty goal, but Slippery Rock has been able to open plenty of eyes as a result of the financial successes already associated with its revitalization initiatives.

Judging from the latest report, all is still a "go," regardless of what challenges might lie ahead.
