Leona Farnen of Butler celebrated her 90th birthday recently with a surprise party.

The former Leona Geibel was born Oct. 26, 1915, in East Butler. She married Gene Farnen on Oct. 19, 1935. He is deceased.

She has two sisters, Sally Schnur and Loretta Christie; two brothers, Vic Geibel and Glenn Geibel; and numerous nieces and nephews. A brother and sister are deceased.

Mrs. Farnen was is retired from the A&P Store in Butler in 1978 after 42 years. She worked as both the head cashier and manager.

She is a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the Century Club and the Armco and Lake Arthur golf clubs. She enjoys traveling and golfing.
