Rock women grab 3-1 victory
Sophomore forward Sarah Mangiarelli, junior midfielder Jaimi Wilson and freshman midfielder Meggi Howard scored goals Tuesday to lead the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team to a 3-1 win at Millersville.
The Rock (10-5-2) achieved a double-digit win total for the eighth consecutive year.
SRU hosts Edinboro in the regular season finale at 2 p.m. Saturday at James Egli Field, then plays the Scots three days later in a PSAC quarterfinal game.
Three second-half goals cost The Rock a 3-0 decision at Millersville. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Cook had five saves in the game.SRU closed the regular season at 11-7-1 overall, 10-5-1 in PSAC play. The Rock has a one-point lead over California in the PSAC standings, but the Vulcans can earn the title with a win Saturday over East Stroudsburg.
A five-game win streak ended for The Rock as Edinboro claimed a 30-17, 30-27, 30-15 victory.Freshman middle blocker Anastasia Urbanik had 12 kills and two blocks for SRU (23-7, 4-4). Sophomore outside hitter Louise Schultz had 10 kills and junior setter Sara Kirsch had 29 assists and 10 digs.SRU hosts New Haven at 11 a.m. Saturday.
