Karns City rally stops short
Trailing 2-0 in games Tuesday night, Karns City's girls volleyball team didn't quit.
The Gremlins (7-7) suffered a 3-2 loss to Redbank Valley, but rallied from 25-20, 25-14 losses to secure wins of 31-29 and 25-23 that forced a deciding fifth game.
Redbank Valley won that one, 15-12.
"This was quite a game to watch," Karns City coach Marcy Isacco said.
Nicole Strohmeyer paced Karns City with 11 spikes, four kills and 11 serving points. Stephanie Isacco scored 16 points and averaged five hits per game.
Haley Callihan scored 12 points and averaged six hits per game.
Karns City, which is going to the District 9 playoffs for the first time in nearly 10 years, plays at Union Thursday.
Clarion-Limestone 3, Moniteau 1
— Kendra Hall had 13 digs and Randi Campbell had 10 digs, but the Warriors fell to the Lions 25-16, 25-12, 22-25, 25-15.
Kristen Baronetski added eight digs and nine kills and Amber Dillaman two aces, nine digs, three saves, three blocks for Moniteau (7-9, 7-7).
Because of inclement weather, the second and final round of the PIAA Golf Championships was cancelled on Tuesday and won't be played.Mars junior Marissa Glew finished the first round Monday at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York tied for sixth place and that's where she will finish.Grove City's duo of Derek Forese and Cameron Peterson were also locked into their finish from Monday.Forese tied for 13th and Peterson tied for 23rd.
