Planets golfer tied for 6th at state meet

Mars junior Marisa Glew carded an 82 in the first round of the PIAA Girls Golf Championships Monday at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.

Glew (37-45-82) is tied for sixth place with Megan Trachok of Upper St. Clair.

Victoria Arena of Mount St. Joseph, Emily Riddle of Elk County Christian, Rachel Rohanna of Waynesburg and Kim Snyder of Nazareth are all tied for first place with 79s.

In the boys championship, Grove City's Derek Forese is tied for 13th (37-40-77) with Nic Milito of Greensburg Central Catholic and Andrew Wallisch of Fox Chapel, while the Eagles Cameron Peterson (40-39-79) is tied for 23rd place with 10 others.

Christian Goetz of Burgettstown and T.J. Howe of Northern Tioga are tied for first place with 72s.

The championship will wrap up with second-round action today.

<B>Slippery Rock 1, Mercer 0 —</B> Kelsey Drennan scored the game's lone goal off an assist from Jence Rhoads.Jennifer Badgett and Brittany Freiters shared the win in net for Slippery Rock (13-0), which hosts Maplewood Thursday at SRU.

<B>Slippery Rock 4, Kennedy Catholic 0 —</B> Mike Ramirez tallied a pair of goals and Ryan Gercken and Craig Bicehouse scored one goal each for the visiting Rockets Saturday.Joe Bryan registered his 13th shutout.Slippery Rock (15-1-2) will host Commodore Perry today.

<B>Union 3, Moniteau 0 —</B> Despite two blocks and three saves from Kristen Baronetski and seven digs from Cassie Wiest, it was the Damsels that came away with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-7 victory.Union's junior varsity also won 25-18, 15-25, 25-22.In Moniteau's previous match, Keystone edged the Warriors 25-19, 21-25, 25-11, 21-25, 15-10.Haley McFeaters had five kills and three saves, Kristen Baronetski had six digs and five kills, Amber Dillaman had six blocks, Cassie Wiest had five kills and Kendra Hall eight digs for the Warriors (8-7, 7-7), who play at Clarion-Limestone today.<B>Karns City 3, West Forest 0 —</B> The Gremlins took this KSAC meeting by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 26-24.Stephanie Isacco had nine kills for Karns City (7-6), while Laura Kepple also had a strong match.The Gremlins lost the junior varsity affair, 2-0.
