The Venture Club of North Pittsburgh recently received a $2,500 grant from Soroptomist International of the Americas to provide diaper bags to mothers in need in the Butler County area.Each bag is filled with bottles, hats, socks and other necessities.Since beginning the project in February, the club has donated 15 diaper bags to Butler Memorial Hospital's Family Services. Mary McDonald of Slippery Rock was recently named the winner of the Earth Day coloring contest sponsored by MY Clean Air of Valencia and FilterQueen.She is the recipient of a certificate, coloring items and an air purifier.
Douglas Hilliard of Saxonburg has been honored by the Keystone Paralyzed Veterans of America with the Frank Steck SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) Coordinator Award.Hilliard, who is a prosthetics representative at the Butler Veterans Administration Medical Center in Butler Township, was recognized for his service in providing rehabilitation through the provision of proper prosthetic devices for disabled veterans.
Paul Adomites of Emlenton was recently awarded second place in the 2005 Friends of Old Time Radio 2005 scriptwriting contest for his play "A Good Rub."A substitute teacher in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley and Riverview Intermediate Unit, he has written several books and articles on baseball history.His play, "The Fantabulous Adventures of Franklin Frankie," will be performed on Oct. 28 at the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin.
