George Wayne Cratty
George Wayne Cratty, 86, of Kiester House Road, Slippery Rock Township, died at 8:52 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Living Center, Grove City.
Born in Prospect, Sept. 11, 1919, he was the son of Joseph Ward Cratty and Clarabel Badger Cratty.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Slippery Rock Branch, had served on district counsel in the West Penn District and had been the physical facilities coordinator for Slippery Rock.
During World War II, he served in the Army and patrolled the nation's capital along the waterways to the east of the Capitol.
Mr. Cratty worked at Hindman's Machine Shop in Butler from 1943 to 1952, was a self-employed farmer from 1953 to 1958 and worked at Cooper Bessemer in Grove City from 1954 to 1974. He then was an over-the-road truck driver from 1974 until his retirement in 1984.
Surviving are the love of his life, Anita Kiester Cratty of Grove City, whom he married Dec. 25, 1943; three daughters, Gayle C. Crawford of Clintonville, Kay E. McDonald of Hurricane, Utah, and Vauna J. Walker of Pingree, Idaho; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy A. Cratty of Slippery Rock. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Cratty, who died in 1988; two brothers, Richard L. and Robert B. Cratty; and a sister, Grace McDeavitt.
CRATTY - Friends of George Wayne Cratty, who died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kelly Boulevard, Slippery Rock, with President Thomas Pearcy of the Slippery Rock LDS Church, officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery Cherry Township.
