Schmelzers 50th anniversary
Don and Georgia Schmelzer of Slippery Rock celebrated 50 years of marriage with a surprise family dinner given by their children and grandchildren at the Sportsmen's Restaurant in Tionesta.
The former Georgia Debor married Schmelzer on Sept. 3, 1955, at First Presbyterian Church in Tarentum.
They have three children, Janice Hinchberger and Alan Schmelzer, both of Slippery Rock, and David Schmelzer of Hilliards.
They also have four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, a great-grandchild and a step-great-grandchild.
Schmelzer is retired from the Butler School District, where he worked as a teacher. He served in the Navy for four years. He is a member of the Slippery Rock and Boyers sportsmen's clubs, the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, the American Legion, Butler County Metal Detectors Club and the Slippery Rock University Alumni Association.
Mrs. Schmelzer is a homemaker, secretary at her church and an emergency medical technician. She is a past member of the Women's Club and Zonta Club.
The couple belongs to Highland Presbyterian Church.
