Giant wind turbine farm planned in Pennsylvania
PORTAGE - A Spanish wind energy company is seeking permission to build what would be the area's largest windmill farm.
The wind turbine builder Gamesa, which is also building a factory outside Ebensburg, hopes to get a state permit to erect some 60 turbines along the Blair-Cambria county line. The farm would be the largest of its kind in the region after a field of 20 turbines in Meyersdale.
Gamesa has been tightlipped about the proposal, with director of development Brian Lammers saying only that the project is moving forward.
Portage Township officials say the enterprise will be called Allegheny Ridge Wind Farm LLC.
The exact proposed location of the turbines was not immediately known.
